The MERYLTHON 2023 Recap
Recorded live at the Four Star Theater in San Francisco.
Featuring Katya Smirnoff-Skyy
In 2023, Queer LifeSpace hosted the inaugural Merylthon, a unique 3-day fundraiser celebrating the legendary career of Meryl Streep while raising crucial funds for LGBTQIA+ mental health services. Held in San Francisco, the event brought together film lovers, queer community members, and devoted Streep enthusiasts for an unforgettable weekend of cinematic excellence, performances, and philanthropy.
The event featured back-to-back screenings of some of Meryl Streep’s most iconic films, carefully curated to showcase her unparalleled range as an actor. Throughout the weekend, attendees enjoyed themed cocktails, interactive games, and lively discussions about her most memorable performances. Special guest appearances, including local drag artists paying homage to Streep’s legendary roles, added to the festive atmosphere.
All proceeds from Merylthon went to Queer LifeSpace, an award-winning nonprofit providing affirming, low-cost mental health services to the LGBTQIA+ community in California.

About the Merylthon
-
Why Meryl?
What started as a pun among friends grew into a niche cultural event with many goals: Have Fun, Watch Movies, and Raise Money for a Good Cause.
p.s. We don’t care if you think she’s overrated.
-
Become a Sponsor
The MERYLTHON brings together a diverse audience of film enthusiasts and Meryl Streep fans, while supporting independent and repertory cinemas who lack the time or resources to plan multi-day festivals.
-
Evolution of a Pun
It all begins with an idea... The story of the Merylthon has its origins in 2006.
It even includes a tweet that never went viral.
-
Cinema for Good
The MERYLTHON was conceived by Cinema for Good, a production company that creates fun, experiential, turn-key film festivals for repertory cinemas. CFG’s goal is to bolster economic revitalization of struggling repertory cinemas and the local business districts they anchor.

What do you call a group of Meryls?
We put out a call for Meryls, and they responded.
For anyone with an uncommon name, this is for you!

Why Independent & Repertory Cinemas?
These cinemas provide a vital space for community engagement and artistic expression, fostering a deeper appreciation for the art of cinema. By backing these establishments, you ensure that independent voices and stories continue to be shared and celebrated.
